John Mayer on turning 30….

March 31, 2007

Rolling Stone:

You turn 30 in October. What will be the worst part about seeing your 20s go away?

J.M.:

There are lots of very invasive tests that doctors like to administer to men in their thirties. These tests usually result in a ride home with the radio off and very little blinking.

Some thoughts….

March 29, 2007

We have been fasting TV for a few weeks. To be quite honest it has been kinda hard, especially knowing there is a new episode of House MD on. Dang, I love that show!

I appreciate everyones support over the past few days following the news of our continuing adopting. Its so cool that the Lord has so many people that genuinely care. We ask for your continued support in prayer.

I have rigged my MacMini to run similar to the new AppleTV. I will post a video of the coolness soon.

I have discovered a really cool old school jazz radio station. Its out of Costa Mesa, Ca. Good stuff. Nothing like a little Coltrane, Mingus and Miles to chill you.

After playing on a Nintendo Wii console a couple of weeks ago at our friends house I have been obsessed with locating one. They are NO WHERE to be found! If you havent had the opportunity to play with one of these Wii’s yet, stop slepping!

On my iPod this week: Hillsong United “All of the Above”, Eric B. & Rakim “Dont Sweat the Technique”, Mark Dricoll “Nehemiah”, Dan Plourde “Genesis”, John Mayer “Continuum”

Speaking of John Mayer, he is coming back to West Palm Beach in August. We have our tickets already. He will be solo, no second rate acts to take away from more of his greatness.

These verses from my q.t. this week have really blessed me. God has a purpose for the desert. Dont forget it!
“…the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. 3 He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.” Deuteronomy 8:2-3

Good Movie.

March 28, 2007

Penny and I watched “The Prestige” the other night. It was a really good movie! Kind of crazy though….Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Batman (Christian Bale) and Batmans butler, Alfred (Michael Caine) all star in this. If you like twists, turns, some suspense and oh yeah, a little bit of magic, you’ll definitely dig this movie. We decided we are going to have to watch it again to catch some of the little details that we missed. Worth the watch.

Adoption Update.

March 27, 2007

We got a call from our family coordinator this afternoon. We were told that we lost our referrals. They are no longer available to us as the children are being pursued by Russian familes. As sad as this news was, I was not surprised. I believe that the Lord has been preparing us for this day for quite some time. I’ve felt a sort of disconnect from the photos we had of our children and now we know why. It doesn’t make it any easier though. It still hurts but I am so thankful for the incredible peace He has given us. We trust that God has the perfect children for us somewhere in Russia and we will wait for them as long as it takes. Hopefully it won’t take much longer! Our agency said that we will be at the top of the waiting list for referrals and they should come soon after reaccreditation. I’ve learned not to hold my breath. We have also asked that they do not send us any photos of our future children, having faces to fall in love with has made this loss all the harder. Please pray for us, for the children we lost, the children that will one day be ours and for reaccreditation. Thak you all for your prayers and support.
We will ” trust in the Lord with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding, in all our ways we will acknowledge Him and He will direct our paths”.

Heroes: Herb Newsome

March 26, 2007

I first met Herb, aka, Proverb in 1991. I was at a club named “Horizons” in downtown West Palm Beach, Fl. There was a hip-hop group named 1Way that performed that night. I was totally blown away by the excellence of the music and passion behind it. I had the honor and privilege of talking with Proverb, the unofficial leader of the group that evening. That was the beginning of a wonderful friendship that I value to this day. Proverb has always been someone I admire. Whether it was his humility after performing before hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of hip-hop fans or his tireless dedication at his place of employment. Proverb is a man that challenges me to be a better man. He has spear headed ministry to inner-city teenagers and young adults for almost two decades now. This blows my mind. I have rarely seen the commitment and dedication from a human being towards a desperate and self destructing culture. Proverb has brought a voice of hope and unwavering truth to many lives in South Florida. Many people have been touched by this man, including mine. It has been an honor and privilege to watch him grow in ministry (check his MySpace here) and in life (he has a wonderful wife, Pam and amazing son, Micah). This man has been an incredible example to me and those around him to dedication, consistency, humility and hard work. I am blessed to say he is a friend, a mentor, a Hero.

From Lakeland, Fl.

March 24, 2007

Penny and I are in Lakeland and thats where I write this from, high atop our 7th floor hotel room! We brought 9 of our upper classmen to Southeastern University, a small Christian college right here in Lakeland. They are having “Preview Days” so we thought it would be a good opportunity to expose some of our students to college life and a Christian college environment. So far I have been blown away by the staff, the students, the campus and most impressivly the university president. His name is Mark Rutland and he is quite a dynamic leader. Last night he shared with our students the importance of dreams and to pursue them with urgency and caution. Just an incredible leader. I’m anxious to hear from our students their thoughts on the whole experience. (Written at 8 AM, Posted at 9 PM)

Jesus is the product….

March 21, 2007

After you watch this you will feel dirty or maybe not. Interesting MSNBC story about Evangelicalism in America or corporate Christianity. Seems like the news media is a little behind on the story, but it is still interesting. Honestly, I kinda like TD Jakes (his personality and style) so this isn’t a drive by. But Joel Osteen is just a creepy dude. Anyway……

Student Ministry blog.

March 20, 2007

We have had a Student Ministry blog for a while now. It has been a nice spot to communicate info to our students as well as use it for other “stuff”. This week our DJ (Dylan) announced a give away to our students. The winner has to post the best comment. Needless to say, students have responded. Do you work with students? Do you utilize the blogosphere? If no……why not? Its free and effective!
